SPECIFIC ELICITORS OF GLYCEOLLIN ACCUMULATION IN THE PSEUDOMONAS-GLYCINEA-SOYBEAN HOST-PARASITE SYSTEM

Specific elicitors of the soybean phytoalexin glyceollin were detected in the cellular envelopes of incompatible races of Pseudomonas glycinea. Sodium dodecyl sulphate solubilized the elicitors from isolated cellular envelopes and, with one exception, these preparations from five bacterial races had the same specificity for elicitation of glyceollin accumulation in cotyledons of cultivars Acme and Harosoy soybeans as did the respective live bacterial cells. Elicitor activity was not detected in lipopolysaccharide preparations, exopolysaccharide fractions or the culture fluids of the various P. glycinea races. © 1979.
