What Do Students Use Their Mathematics Textbooks for? Comparing Expected and Actual Use

摘要
Mathematics textbooks are designed with particular expectations of their use. But, do the actual uses of mathematics textbooks coincide with these expectations? In this paper a Grounded Theory Study of purposes students in secondary grade use their mathematics textbooks for is presented. The actual use of textbooks is compared with the expected use and finally hypotheses about reasons for observed variations are put forward.
