Lipophilic 2-hydroxymethylbenzimidazoles complexed by Zn++ ions were investigated for their esterolytic activities in the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl picolinate in the presence of cationic micelles. The nature and the stoichiometry of the active complexes 1:1 or 2:1 types were shown to be dependent on the position of the substituant on the heterocycle and on the surfactant concentration.
