SOFTWARE FOR TEACHING COMPUTING

Evolving from generic computer assisted instruction, application software for teaching and learning computing subjects has become specialized into a number of categories including animation, simulation, modelling and learning environments. Demonstration systems to illustrate principles of construction and use have been developed in each area and in many cases have become valuable learning aids in the institutions of origin. Poor dissemination of information about methods and software has resulted in considerable duplication of effort. It is suggested that dissemination, research into courseware effectiveness and the development of strategies for integration into the computing curriculum are of high priority.
