GEOMETRICAL EFFECTS ON RECOIL SPECTRA IN PROPORTIONAL-COUNTERS

摘要
When determining neutron flux densities with a CH4-filled proportional counter, the boundaries of the counter distort the resulting proton recoil spectrum. Recoil spectra were calculated using the Monte Carlo method (1) for neutrons of parallel incidence along the counter axis (2) for neutrons emerging from a point source. Under typical experimental conditions, the second approach results in a measured neutron flux density which is 1.5% lower than the common approximation of using parallel incidence. © 1979.
