摘要
Two techniques, namely, positron emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) have catapulted significant progress in research on functional mapping of the brain. PET is a well recognized method that has been newly improved due to more recent breakthroughs. It has been recently discovered that the removal of the γ-absorbing plates between the detectors, called collimating septa, in PET cameras can greatly improve its sensitivity. On the other hand, fMRI is relatively new. Currently, fMRI is being applied to gain insight into cerebral dynamics and processes. However, it is yet to be widely accepted by neuroscientists and neurosurgeons.
