摘要
This paper describes a study of the physical characteristics which determine surface friction, for various surface treatments. The study included an investigation of the frictional properties of rubber gloves, especially the type used by surgeons. This helped in appreciating what are the appropriate surface qualities needed for practical use. The results show that surface roughness and hardness reduce the dry friction, but glove insides when slightly wet or damp call for an additional quality: the treated rubber surface must be capable of absorbing water.
