摘要：

Remote sensing and GIS education and training in Central and Eastern Europe should see more emphasis on practical and hands-on experience in the processing and analysis of digital imagery, less theoretical ex cathedra teaching and more attention for high-priority applications, including the implementation of post-graduate and extra-mural refresher courses for mid-career professionals. Constraints are a lack of budgetary resources, a shortage of teaching staff, appropriate equipment (hardware and software), and suitable remote sensing imagery for practical exercises. West-east cooperation will be in the interest of all concerned.
