THE FOUNDATION OF ANTHROPOID-RESEARCH-STATION IN THE BEGINNING OF THE 20TH-CENTURY

The foundation of anthropoid research stations at the beginning of the 20th century began with the station of the Prussian Acedemy Berlin in Orotava/Tenerife (1912-1920). This was followed by the station of the Pasteur Institute Paris in Kindia/French Guinea (1923-1960), the Primate Research Laboratory of the Yale University New Haven (1925-today), the Sukhumi Monkey Breeding Station/Sukhumi UdSSR (1927-today) and die Hamilton Research Laboratory on Montecido/USA (1910-1918). With the foundation of such anthropoid stations significant improvments were achieved in the investigation of the biology of these animals under almost seminatural conditions. It was the beginning of a new era in biomedical research.
