摘要：

This article demonstrates a means for estimating the number of retrieved items using well-established selective dissemination of information (SDI) profiles in the SCI, INSPEC, ISMEC, CAS, and PASCAL databases. It also examines a correlation between individual database size and number of retrieved documents (in technical fields). The conclusions are based on SDI profiles at the University of Wroclaw (Wroclaw, Poland), which has served scientists and engineers in the field of chemistry, physics, computer science, and electrical, civil, and mechanical engineering.
