摘要
In this introductory article to the Special Focus Section on Learner-Centered Classrooms, the author discusses background literature and guiding principles that drive the actions of learner-centered teachers. Explored is the importance of expectations, of both research informing practice and practice informing research, of collaboration, of reflection, and of an attitude of life-long learning. In the subsequent six articles, leachers' descriptions offer parallels between these characteristics and learning in their respective classrooms. Each classroom involves children and youth with hearing losses and the learning communities range from preschool level through graduate school.
