Spontaneous Dermoid Cyst Rupture: Case Report

Dermoid cyst is the most frequent ovarian tumor. It is mostly benign and asymptomatic. It rarely gives symptoms. Torsion is the most frequent complication. Since the wall of the cyst is thick, both the rupture and perforation are rare. A woman aged 34 years, G2P1 has attempted to our outpatient clinic with severe right lower quadrant pain. Abdominal and transvaginal sonography have revealed a right ovarian mass that was 55x65 in size and in heterogenic appearance. There was minimal free fluid in pouch of Douglas. Laparotomy for acute abdomen and right ovarian mass has been performed and a spontaneous dermoid cyst rupture was seen. Hair and sebaceous tissue were seen on the capsule of the ovarian cyst, uterin serosa, on the bladder, parietal periton and the intestine serosa. Rupture of dermoid cyst is a rarely encountered clinical condition but chemical peritonitis might occur if the contents of the cyst contact to periton for a long time. Many operations may become necessary for the treatment. That O s why both early diagnosis and washing the abdomen abundantly during the surgery are important.
