Non-isothermal crystallization of as-quenched and pre-annealed amorphous FeCoB alloys is investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy. Crystallization takes place with continuous heating in two steps at peak temperatures of about 685 and 774 K, respectively, according to the Fe/Co ratio. Precipitation of alpha-iron occurs by dendritic growth in the first stage followed by the metastable Fe3B phase and cubic and hexagonal cobalt while stable boride phases are formed during the second stage. Prolonged annealing drastically lowers the first step crystallization temperature.
