摘要
Service life of steel wire ropes is limited due to change of properties during exploitation under working condition and loads. Regular inspection during operation enables damage development inspection and provides a regular rope ageing process. In this way timely replacement of ropes and safe service is assured. Basic types of steel rope damages (mechanical wear, fatigue, corossion, failure due to over-load and shearing collapse) are presented in the article and analysed. Collecting data can be contribute to better design of lifting equipment and ropes and improved maintenance procedures.
