摘要
The treatment of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis is mainly symptomatic according to the guidelines of the ARIA in cooperation with the WHO, based on the recently adapted version of the ARIA. Antihistamines, glucocorticoids, leukotriene antagonists, decongestants, Cromones and, as the only causal treatment, allergen-specific immunotherapy are applied in guideline-compliant therapy. Intranasal ipratropium bromide is also recommended for treating rhinorrhea in persisting allergic rhinitis. Despite all of these treatment regimens, many patients are treated insufficiently due to outdated, over-the-counter (OTC) pharmaceuticals that do not guarantee optimal therapy. Also, the non-compliance rate among patients is high and often caused by steroid phobia. This results in the fact that the symptoms of allergic rhinitis are often not treated adequately. Alternatives for such patients could be rhinological medications newly available on the market with their physical instead of pharmacological effects. Among these are nasal sprays and isotonic saline solutions, a cellulose spray, a liposomal nasal spray as well as an ectoin nasal spray combined with ectoin eyedrops. Unlike standard treatment, these alternatives have few or no side effects. The mechanisms of action and the use of new treatment approaches described above require further research and evaluation. Patients who have reservations about pharmacological therapy should be given treatment alternatives with new non-pharmacological agents.
