Yields of nuclei produced in the irradiation of 45Sc with 4He particles of 150 MeV have been measured by the activation analysis technique. The experimental yields are compared with predictions from a Rudstam formula. The production of 24Na is discussed and compared with results from proton, pion and photon induced reactions. The fission probabilities obtained by 4He induced fission are compared with published experimental values from other reactions and with liquid drop model (LDM) calculations. A fission-like process leading to the formation of 24Na is considered. The isomeric yield ratio σ(44mSc)/σ(44gSc) is discussed. Fission cross sections have been measured and fission probabilities were determined for 238U, 197Au, 120Sn and 67Zn nuclei irradiated with 140 MeV 4He particles. © 1979.
