1. 1. Compositional studies using gas-liquid chromatography performed on bovine corneal collagen indicated that this molecule is a glycoprotein with a carbohydrate content of 5.78%. 2. 2. The sugar components present were identified as glucosamine, 0.47%; galactosamine, 3.08%; fucose, 0.02%; mannose, 0.21%; xylose, 0.31%; glucose 0.57%; galactose, 1.09%; and sialic acid 0.05%. 3. 3. Digestion of the corneal collagen with collagenase and pronase, and column chromatography yields two distinct glycopeptides with differing carbohydrate composition. © 1968.
