摘要
The alpha-Al2O3(0001) surfaces were investigated with the reflection electron microscopy (REM) technique. The surface step configurations are reviewed in terms of atomic structure and bonding energies. Experimental evidences of step and facet configurations are also given. The characteristics of dislocations on the (0001) surfaces were discussed using Burgers vector directions and magnitudes. Contrast reversal due to the different resonance conditions and lattice termination at different atomic layers within a unit cell is reported. Also examined is the electron-beam-induced damage/contamination.
