MOSSBAUER EFFECT IN FERROELECTRIC-ANTIFERROMAGNETIC BiFeO3

摘要
An attempt is made to utilize the Mossbauer effect for study of the ferroelectric-antiferromagnetic material, BiFeO3. Data obtained in the ferroelectric range above the Neel temperature (T-N) Indicate that Iron has a trivalent configuration but the Fe- O bond is only partially ionic. T-N has been determined to be 372 +/- 3 degrees C. The strong quadrupolar Interaction observed Indicate asymmetrically disposed Fe3+ ions In the oxygen octahedra.
