摘要
The fecal incontinence is an impaired ability to control gas or stool. The origin is due to diverse causes. It is a devastating disease with multiple results such as social isolation and reduced quality of life. It affects all ages. The normal continence of the stool is maintained by a complex mechanism of anatomy and anorectal physiology. Alterations in this mechanism causes fecal incontinence. There are several types of incontinence, classified by severity. There are multiple physiological studies complementing the diagnosis of the fecal incontinence. In its initial stages it can have positive response to pharmacological treatments. Most cases need surgical treatment with excellent results and improvement in the symptoms of the intestinal function.
