A NEW INTERRUPTION METHOD FOR LOW-VOLTAGE, SMALL-CAPACITY, AIR-BREAK CONTACTORS

摘要
The purpose of this study is to develop a new interruption method that can shorten arcing time and reduce contact wear in contactors having a rated operational current of about 20 A without an arc extinguishing plate. The features of construction of the newly developed method are that a slit is formed in the stationary conductor with a contact, and an arc runner is located on the slit. By this method, the maximum arcing time in a 726-V (660 V x 1.1), 74-A circuit is shortened by about 70%, and the contact wear in a 440-V, 80-A circuit is reduced by 21%. Through analysis of the electromagnetic drive of the arc in this method, it is revealed that the shortening of arcing time and reduction of contact wear are caused by the drive.
