摘要
Apparent power has no unique meaning when used to describe polyphase nonsinusoidal systems. Several different defintions are discussed in the paper. Implications of this ambiguity on power factor calculations, revenue metering, and compensation are shown. The time-domain based method of defining and measuring the apparent power is discussed. The paper points out the necessity of a critical revision of terms relating to apparent power in the IEEE Standard Dictionary.
