摘要
The river Ganga flows from the northwest to the southeast, following the lineaments developed in response to the Himalayan tectonics. Ganga sediments show a large number of facies developments throughout the study area from Hardwar to Kachhla. The active channel deposits are marked by the development of large-scale facies in gravel and coarse sand. Small-scale facies comprising fine sand, silt and clay are developed in inactive channel deposits and overbank deposits. The depositional model shows a progressive decrease in particle size, thickness of units and scale of cross-bedded sets from the lower to the upper parts of sequences as well as from upstream to downstream. The sedimentation of the Ganga basin is seasonally and tectonically controlled.
