摘要：

Passing in review details from the author's biography as well as passages from his two most autobiographical novels, L'Incubation and Le Semestre, this article illustrates the importance of the theme of identity in his works, as well as the complexity of being French-Canadian then Quebecois while living outside of Quebec for such a long period of time. It also underscores the reasons why it is possible to consider Gerard Bessette as a homo ontarionensis.
