ANIONIC-POLYMERIZATION OF VINYLSILANES .1. NOVEL ISOMERIZATION IN THE ANIONIC-POLYMERIZATION OF TRIMETHYLVINYLSILANE

The authors demonstrate another propagation reaction occurring in the polymerization of TMVS (Trimethylvinylsilane). Polymerization was carried out under high vacuum conditions using the breakable seal technique. An intiator solution was introduced into a reactor, then TMEDA solution was added to it followed by the addition of TMVS solution. It is concluded that in the presence of TMEDA (Tetramethylenediamine) the anionic polymerization of TMVS mainly proceeds by isomerization. Even in the absence of TMEDA, around 10% of the propagation reaction proceeded by the isomerization.
