Ferroelectric Lead Nitrate Phosphate (LNP) and Rubidium Hydrogen Tartrate (RHT) single crystals are grown by employing the gel technique. Transparent and bright LNP crystals up to 6 x 4 x 2 mm3 and RHT crystals up to 16 x 5 x 4 mm3 in sizes are obtained at room temperature. The d.c. electrical conductivity (a) of both single crystals and pelletized samples of LNP are studied in the temperature range 300 to 700 K. The dielectric constant (ef) and the dielectric losses (e“) are determined as a function of temperatures in the range 300 to 430 K. It is observed that: (i) <r of crystalline sample is greater than that of the pellet sample, (ii) two distinct electrical conductivity processes are observed and are interpreted as extrinsic and intrinsic, (iii) the mechanism of the dielectric behaviour is different in the lower and higher temperature ranges, and (iv) the magnetic successibility measurements reveal the paramagnetic characteristic of LNP and RHT materials. © 1990, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
