The Promotion of Health and Safety at Work in the Construction Companies of Cape Verde

This paper presents part of a study conducted in Cape Verde about construction companies to improve the knowledge of the reality of safety, hygiene and health at work by contractors. The information about how the construction companies are implementing legal requirements of safety and the safety, hygiene and health indicators at work were given by the companies technicians. With the treatment of the data was possible to know information about what kind of health and safety services were adopted, the training of technicians responsible for the services, the existence of medicine at work, the contracting of compulsory insurance against accidents, the workers training, the implementation of collective and individual protective equipment and the occurrence of fatal accidents. This study includes a critical analysis on the results based on the information obtained in the available bibliography, communication with the technicians and the direct observation of the construction sites in the territory, questioning whether, in fact, the numbers are better than the working conditions or if the reality triggers divergent information.
