Meckel's Diverticulum Fatal Case Report

Meckel's Diverticulum is a common congenital abnormality of the gastrointestinal tract, due to failure in the closure of the viteline duct, whose complications are rare in adults. We present a case of a 35 year old male adult, who, after alcohol ingestion, presented abdominal pain and sudden death. In the autopsy, massive hemoperitoneum, originated by the erosion of secondary blood vessels due to ulceration of the Meckel's Diverticulum wall, was demonstrated. This cause of death by a diverticulum is rare, since the most common complication is intestinal obstruction.
