摘要：

The prophase stages of meiosis in Neurospora crassa are re-examined following McClintock (1945) and Singleton (1953). A diffuse chromosome stage occurring between pachynema and diakinesis is described. It is proposed that the diffuse stage does not necessarily represent a condition of intense gene activity in the sense of directing the metabolic activity of the ascus. © 1969 Springer-Verlag.
