Streptococcus pneumoniae is a common bacterial pathogen in upper and lower respiratory tract infections. It causes a Public health problem by its resistance to various antibiotics, particularly to beta-lactams agents. The Increase of penicillin-intermediate-resistant (0,1 less-than-or-equal-to MIC less-than-or-equal-to 1 mg/l) and penicillin-resistant pneumococci (MIC > 1 mg/l) requires a routine epidemiological survey and raises the question of the therapeutic management of such patients with community-acquired respiratory tract infections.
