In the title compound, C18H18O3S, the 4-methylphenyl ring makes a dihedral angle of 86.35 (3)degrees with the mean plane [mean deviation = 0.006 (1) angstrom] of the benzofuran fragment. In the crystal, molecules are linked by weak C-H center dot center dot center dot O and C-H center dot center dot center dot pi interactions. The crystal structure also exhibits weak pi-pi interactions between the furan and benzene rings of neighbouring benzofuran systems [centroid-centroid distance = 3.685 (2), interplanar distance = 3.572 (2) and slippage = 0.906 (2) angstrom].
