ON THE OSCILLATORY INSTABILITY OF A FLUID LAYER IN A HIGH-FREQUENCY VIBRATIONAL FIELD IN WEIGHTLESSNESS

摘要
The instability of a fluid layer which performs a high-frequency vibration is studied analytically and numerically using a set of incompressible fluid and heat equations averaged with respect to the ''fast time'' related to the vibration frequency. It is shown that the nature of the instability of the equilibrium state is oscillatory, if asymmetric boundary conditions are imposed. This instability manifests itself by propagation of the perturbations along the layer. Various types of asymmetric boundary conditions are considered and the corresponding shortwave and longwave instabilities are investigated.
