THE ELECTROCATALYTIC REDUCTION OF PERCHLORATE IONS IN AQUEOUS-SOLUTIONS

A survey is given on the experimental evidences proving the electrocatalytic reduction of ClO4- ion at various electrodes (Pt, Pd, Re and Tc). The main stress is laid on the phenomena observed at platinized electrodes. It is shown, that under appropriately chosen experimental conditions a significant distortion of the voltammetric behaviour of platinized electrodes can be observed in HClO4 solutions. The factors influencing this phenomenon (concentration of HClO4, preparation and pretreatment of the electrodes etc.) are discussed. The electrocatalytic activity of electrodeposited Tc and Re layers in the reduction process is demonstrated and discussed.
