A rainfed field experiment was conducted during the winter (rabi) seasons of 1987-88 and 1990-91 to study the effect of planting pattern on wheat (Triticum aestivum L. emend. Fiori & Paol.) + mustard [Brassica juncea (L.) Czernj. & Cosson] cropping system. Intercropping of wheat + mustard (2 : 1 ratio) was the most remunerative system as it gave total production in terms of wheat equivalent of 24.30-31.45 q/ha and net return of Rs 6,595-6,977/ha. The intercrop yield was highest in this ratio. The second best row adjustment was 6 : 1 where wheat yield was highest.
