URBAN PLANNING AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS METHODOLOGICAL AND THEORETICAL REDIRECT THE CONFRONTATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL CRISIS

This paper aims to analyze urban environmental problems as a constitutive part of a global environmental, noting the role and challenges of urban planning to the necessary process of building sustainability in the cities. Methodologically, we use a bibliographic review and an analysis about the urban reality of Metropolitan Area of Recife. We believe that urban planning has a fundamental significance in this construction, especially when fitted a critical approach and, consequently, turned the construction of the social and environmental justices. In Recife, a city where we can check that the environmental crisis quite sharply, this planning model becomes more urgent every day.
