A mathematical formulation is presented for the concept of thermal stability for boiling as stability of the stationary solution of the boundary-value problem describing heat transfer between the heating body and the surrounding boiling liquid. A general method is proposed for the stability analysis of the small-perturbation solution, which is reduced to the eigen-value solution of the linear Sturm-Liouville problem.
