CHARACTERIZATION OF LIGHT-HARVESTING COMPLEX IN OCHROMONAS-DANICA (CHRYSOPHYCEAE)

摘要
The Chrysophytic alga Ochromonas danica lacks chlorophyll c, but in other aspects shows high similarity to brown algae. We investigated the absorbance and fluorescence characteristics of Ochromonas danica and compared it with the spectral properties of Laminaria saccharina. Curve resolution of fluorescence emission spectra gave rise to the same components for the two algae, which differed clearly from higher plants. The energy transfer was similar, with the exception of chlorophyll c:s not participating in Ochromonas danica. Thin section immunogold labelling showed a similar distribution of the light-harvesting complex proteins in the two species. However, Western Blot analysis revealed differences in the protein size, with 21 and 26 kD for Ochromonas danica and 23 and 26 kD for Laminaria saccharina.
