摘要
The aim of this work is to reduce NOx emissions in the compression ignition engine run by biofuel. In this work, single-cylinder direct-injection diesel engine was operated using diesel fuel and eucalyptus oil and diesel fuel (EOF) blends with 15% exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). The emission parameters such as NOx, smoke density and unburned hydrocarbon were measured to estimate the emissions. From the results, it is found that there is 50-60% reduction in NOx and other emissions when using EOF blends in engines operated with 15% EGR. The result reveals that there is an increase of 3-4% in brake thermal efficiency for all EOF blends when compared with diesel fuel without and with 15% EGR. The brake-specific energy consumption of EOF blends is lesser when compared with the base diesel fuel. The cylinder pressure and heat release rate are higher for EOF blends compared with diesel fuel with 15% EGR.
