The high-resolution vibration-rotation emission spectrum of the 2Σ+ ground state of calcium hydride has been recorded with a Bruker Fourier transform spectrometer. The gas-phase free radical has been generated in a ceramic furnace by the reaction of elemental calcium with molecular hydrogen in an electrical discharge. Two vibrational bands, the fundamental v = 1-0 and the v = 2-1 hot band, were observed. Rotational, centrifugal distortion, and spin-rotation interaction constants were determined with improved accuracy. © 1993 Academic Press, Inc.
