Since ophthalmic artery pressure varies with the systemic arterial pressure, the OAP/BAP ratio has greater significance than the actual values of the ophthalmic artery pressure. We used a direct method to measure the pressure in the ophthalmic and brachial arteries in man and studied the OAP/BAP ratio statistically. This analysis showed that there are significant differences in the systolic, diastolic and mean pressures and that the OAP/BAP ratios obtained by direct recording are higher than those obtained by indirect methods. © 1969.
