摘要
It is shown that the collision induced spin and symmetry forbidden transitions of the oxygen molecule are due to electron exchange between two oxygen molecules during collision. Due to this exchange the forbidden transitions borrow intensity from allowed electric dipole transitions, particularly the Schumann-Runge transitions. The simultaneous electronic transitions of the collision complex can be explained by the same mechanism.
