COMPARISON OF APPROXIMATE AND EXACT STATISTICAL-MODELS FOR INTRAMICELLAR FLUORESCENCE QUENCHING

Approximate and exact statistical treatments of the steady-state data for intramicellar fluorescence quenching (kq) are compared and illustrated in the fluorescence quenching of a series of cationic fluorophors, [1-pyrenyl-(CH2)n-N(CH3)3]+Cl-, by a cationic surfactant nitroxyl radical in the sodium dodecylsulfate micelle. Analysis of the data by either method gives estimates of kq within τ 20% of values derived independently from transient experiments. © 1979.
