FOR over a century, Prison Life of Jefferson Davis, by John J. Craven, has occupied a prominent but dubious position in the literature of the Civil War. Is it a fraud, a work of fiction composed by a ghost-writer for financial gain,’ or is it an honest book written from reliable sources with the assistance of a professional writer” Thanks to the long-buried testimony of Charles G.
