EFFECTS OF TREATMENT WITH POLYVINYLPYRROLIDONE AND POLYETHYLENE-GLYCOL ON FABA BEAN TANNINS

摘要
The effect of the addition of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) on tannin removal and polyethylene glycol (PEG) on in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) and in vitro protein digestibility (DCP) of Faba bean (whole meal and seed coat) was examined. There was a significant effect (P < 0.001) of the quantity of PVP or PEG used, on the chemical and in vitro characteristics studied. The addition of PVP reduced (P < 0.05) the tannin content and increased (P < 0.05) the IVDMD and DCP. The improvements obtained on seed coat were more marked than those obtained on whole meal and different reasons for this are suggested.
