摘要
Objectives: Self-management, essential to the survival of food allergic youth, may be challenging during the transition to college life. The present study aimed to improve understanding of college student self-management and the burden of food allergy on college campuses. Methods: College students (N = 91) with a food allergy completed a brief, online survey assessing self-management skills and specific areas of difficulty that they experience on campus. Results: Results suggested that students lack mastery of self-management for several essential skills including carrying self-injectable epinephrine (done "always" by 9.6%) and explaining their allergy to others (done "always" by 23.5%). Furthermore, 33.4% expressed difficulty having food allergy in college. Conclusions: These data help to inform recommendations for improving the experience and safety of college students with food allergy.
