The process of reconciliation within a community depends on multiple factors, but the administration of the collective memory has a determining role. A process of reconciliation is only possible if the narration of what happened is presented as objectively as possible, which means overcoming prejudices and ideological interests. Moreover, a proper articulation of transitional justice is fundamental, as well as some task to release historical prejudices that may be the perfect field for future conflicts. This article was the opening lecture of the 2nd International Congress Building Peace in the 21st Century held in the city of Bogota in September 2014.
