GENETIC-ANALYSIS OF LOCOMOTOR-ACTIVITY IN IMMATURE MICE FROM 2 INBRED STRAINS

Three-week-old house mice from the inbred selection lines SRH and SRL, their intercrosses F1 and F2, and their backcrosses B1 and B2 were individually placed for 20 min in a novel environment and observations were made of their locomotor activity and exploratory rearing responses. For locomotion, a strain difference was detected opposite in direction to that found earlier between adult SRH and SRL animals. As in adults, Matherian analysis indicated that one segregating unit controls this behavior in these developing mice. These genetic factors might be identical, a question that may be clarified by linkage studies. © 1979 Academic Press, Inc.
