IN-VITRO CHICK-EMBRYO CULTURE ASSAY AS A PART OF ALTERNATIVE APPROACHES IN TOXICOLOGY

The history and development of in vitro chick embryo culture techniques were briefly analysed. The in vitro chick embryo culture assay, which has been introduced in our laboratory, is described and the advantages as well as the disadvantages of this system have been assessed. Some important points concerning the culture conditions such as preincubation time, temperature, humidity, quality of water used for the preparation of cultivation media, sterility, quality of the fertilized eggs, as well as our experiences with this technique were emphasized. Finally, the contribution of this type of methods is discussed.
