HEMORRHAGIC SYNDROME IN CATTLE INFECTED WITH BOVINE VIRAL DIARRHEA VIRUS (BVD/MD)

An hemorrhagic syndrome was recently reported in the U.S.A. in cattle acutely infected with non cytopathic strains of bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVD/MD). Coagulation disorders were attributed to severe thrombocytopenia probably resulting from peripheric destruction of altered platelets due to virus action. A syndrome similar if not identical was identified in 1992 in several herds located in the south of Belgium.
