Extended Hückel molecular orbital calculations have shown that the relative stabilities of geometric isomers in 16, 17 and 18 electron octahedral complexes containing strong π-acid or π-donor ligands depend on the number of valence electrons and in a complementary Fashion on whether the ligands are π-donors or π-acceptors. © 1979.
